About

In early 2025, at a Phippsburg CARES meeting, long-time residents Jean Flink, Jean Scott, Nancy Ross and Robin Wallace fondly recalled the original Phippsburg Observer newspaper (1961-1970) and lamented the current lack of local news. That inspired Adam Kernan-Schloss and Elisabeth Paine to ask if we could bring back the Observer. Over the past year, they interviewed residents, asked the Harpswell Anchor for advice, and explored similar efforts in nearby towns.

The result is the revived Observer. Our team is made up of all local volunteers.

By sharing timely information and celebrating our town, we hope to connect neighbors, strengthen civic engagement, and foster pride in our community.

We hope to continue printing and mailing the newspaper, but that all depends on the level of community support we receive. Like our friends at the Harpswell Anchor, we will depend on donations and advertising–no paid subscriptions.

You can donate. And share your ideas here.

Thanks for your support. We look forward to partnering with you to share Phippsburg’s stories.
