We’re thrilled to announce a new feature: puzzles and treasures. Joyce Anderson and Lydia Gregoret will be creating a variety of puzzles and challenges for our readers every month.
Originally from Maine, Joyce has 35 years’ experience as a worksheet creator, having taught language in the Boston area. Her goal is to entertain young and old alike with a variety of puzzles for old-school, paper-and-pencil fun. She created this month’s Neighborhoods of Phippsburg puzzle.
Lydia loves solving puzzles, troubleshooting and making useful things out of available materials. She’s a naturally curious person who’s always up for a challenge. She created this month’s Phippsburg Halloween crossword and the Hidden Treasures feature.

Puzzles-A Phippsburg Halloween
Hidden Treasures
By Lydia Gregoret
Hidden Treasures is a new regular feature in the Observer where we will share local stories or insights based on a prompt. This month we examine how one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure. So please tell us, what was your best-ever find at the Transfer Station? Was this find especially useful? Something you’d been searching for forever? Was it a thing you like to collect or maybe something extremely unique? Or perhaps you regretted having dropped something off, finding yourself returning over and over, hoping that it shows up again.
Please email your story (and a photo of your treasure, if you have one) to by October 15 to be featured in the November issue of the Observer. Also, please suggest future questions about Phippsburg’s hidden treasures.
